Hummingbird
A female Ruby Throated Hummingbird has laid claim to our feeder in front of our dinette window. She likes to sit on the line in front of our window to guard the feeder from intruders. Here she is..... pulling guard duty.
Look at what else showed up later in the afternoon - A female Cardinal!

Dr. Gerben Zylstra
Following is an excerpt from an email forwarded from Gerben's dad:
I told most of you that I will be taking a long trip this summer, to Europe and Asia. I leave late Sunday night. I set up a blog at http://www.gjz32.blogspot.com/ so people can follow my travels. I already uploaded information on my itinerary. If all goes well I should be uploading photos during my trip on a regular basis (I can take a photo with my cell phone camera and then e-mail it through the cell phone to the blog). I will be gone July 8 to August 11. First, about 9 days in Europe on vacation to visit Paris, Lisbon, and Istanbul and then a "working trip" of about 3.5 weeks in 'stan land to visit Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. I just Monday got a second federal grant to work in the 'stan countries (this time a small education and training grant) so I will become more involved in the science over there.
I have added a link over on the left on "Bob's Blog" so that you can surf over there from time to time to see how he is doing.

Family Celebration
We were home from Michigan only a week and a half when we took off for Holden Beach, NC for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. We had 21 people staying in two beach houses next door to each other for a week that zipped by real fast. All but 2 of our grand daughters were able to make it. With young busy families, we thought that was a real accomplishment.
Megan's Graduation
It's about time that I keep this place from going stale. When you are busy with family, it is difficult to find time to blog. In May, we went to Grand Rapids, Michigan primarily to witness our grand daughter Megan's graduation from Grand Rapids Christion High School. As you can see, she was happy to have high schoolfinished in anticipation of bigger and better things to come this fall at Calvin College. Also, parents and grand parents were proud of her achievements. We thought that the planners of the ceremony did an excellent job by getting roughly 350 graduates across the stage and all of the comments & speeches done in one hour!
While there, we got to do a few other things.
Is that Angie looking at her new car? And here's Abagail, our next graduate.
